My Journey

Well, the first thing I did was take my SAT test.  I took the test a little later than my other friends.  The first time I took my test was the first weekend in November.  It was a Saturday.  Now who doesn't love waking up early to take a test?  Well I do have to say that sleep does make a difference.  I had less than six hours of sleep.  I had to keep myself from falling asleep during the test.  I think that if my father didn't make me breakfast, I would have fallen asleep.  So, I advice to sleep well and eat a healthy breakfast.  The second time I took the SAT was better.  I took it in June, that first Saturday.  I slept better and had a healthy breakfast.  I did not know about the ACT or how to register for it, so that sucked on my part.  I don't think that it would be a bad idea to ask people questions.  Don't be afraid to ask questions.

Senior year started.  I applied to different colleges that I was interested in.  (Don't forget to apply for the fee waivers!)  I was stressing and worrying about different things; if I will finish in time, if everything was correct, ect.  After I submitted my applications, I felt relieved.  I felt as if a burden was lifted off my shoulders.  Some of my friends were already looking at scholarships.  I applied for the FAFSA, about a week before it was due.  But for actual scholarships, I didn't start applying for them until January.  I lagged on everything.  (But since then, I've been up to date with everything I have been doing.)  I applied and applied to different scholarships.  There is no such thing as "too much" for a scholarship.  Apply to as many scholarships as you can!

As the month of May approached, the college letters and e-mails started to roll in.  It was both exciting and terrifying.  The first acceptance I got was from Sonoma.  I was excited! Getting accepted into a college!  After that letter, I got a denial from San Diego State.  That was the school I planned on going to.  I was very emotional.  Then, after awhile, I got some more acceptance letters.  Everybody gets acceptance and denial letters.  We just have to suck it up and pick the the next best school, the best school for us to attend.

Now that I picked the school I wanted to go to, I paid the fee.  Well, actually my father did.  I looked up what else I had to do.  If there was anything else we had to pay for.  I checked dorming, living on campus.  I think that living on campus the first year is a good idea because it helps new freshmen find friends and such.  I also look up the parking permit for my car.  Since Cal State LA is three hours from home, we (my father and I) were thinking if I really need to bring a car.

Well it's summer now!  I graduated Ernest Righetti High School on June 7th!  It was an exciting feeling.  I'm finally done with high school.  Now, it's time for friends, hanging out, and... summer school.  I applied for a summer class at Allan Hancock College, which is a community college.  I wanted to get the feeling of what college would be like.  I looked for financial aid for the class(es) I was planning on taking.  As of right now, I am taking one class. I am on the waiting list for the other class.
